Elysium: The Chapter That Changed Everything

When we set out on our family road trip in the Pink Sloth, we knew the journey would bring adventure, but we couldn’t have imagined how much one place would shape us. By the time we reached northern British Columbia, little doubts had started to creep in — suspension issues back on Vancouver Island had us questioning whether we could really make it all the way to Alaska.
And then came Elysium Lake Farm.
Tucked away near Terrace, BC, Elysium became more than a stop along the way — it became a chapter of its own. We arrived planning to stay ten days and ended up doubling our time. The farm gave us space to slow down, to connect with generous hosts who soon felt like family, and to discover the beauty of the Nass Valley and Prince Rupert.
It was a season of laughter, learning, resilience, and belonging — all held together by the steady rhythm of life at the farm. What began as a simple pause on our journey turned into the turning point that quieted our fears and reminded us why we were out here in the first place.
Some of you may have already read parts of this story as I shared them along the way. This post brings them all together as one complete chapter of our journey — told in four parts, each with its own rhythm: a landing, a pause, an adventure, and a gift.
The Series
Arriving at Elysium felt like stepping into a slower rhythm, where conversations, laughter, and quiet farm tasks grounded us in the present.
Part 2 – The In-Between Season
Neither fully settled nor fully on the move, this was a season of transition — tending small tasks, waiting on weather, and finding meaning in the in-between.
Part 3 – Adventures Beyond the Farm
From the long drives to the raw, wild landscapes, this part carried us further into the unknown, beyond the safety and comfort of the farm.
More than a stop, it became a lesson — that patience, kindness, and resilience are the true fuel for big dreams. Lessons we carried with us as we crossed into Alaska.
Elysium was a place of generosity, teamwork, and slowing down — lessons that followed us far beyond its gates.
